House into home

Technically moving is just one step in the game.

Molding your space into a home beyond the presence of furniture and food is the next step-- and the one we never schedule the time for.

Life, as always, is getting a little in the way of this.

So I write poems using magnetic words on my fridge between struggling, full-armed down the stairs to the storage locker and frantically editing a manuscript within the 36 hour time period my supervisor's "URGENT" email allotted me.

These poems are my efforts to make this place a home, squeezed between the rest of life.

I'm still sadly absent from your side of bloggie land, I know. Soon, soon, soon.

I sincerely miss magnetic poetry. I used to have the "Therapy" version in college, and I'd come home after a long day of whatever, and my ADD roommate--instead of doing his actual school work--would have written a novel on the fridge. Good times! :)

Good luck with the end of your semester. I know mine is kicking my ass!

Next thing you know, you'll be heading out of town to see Miss Distracted Spunk. Don't be too hard on yourself. Eventually, everything will fall into place. And we'll be here awaiting your return.

I guess I should ask the Duke, but, how is he taking to his lack of man space now??

One Halloween, I dressed up in black, stuck white stickers with words all over myself, and said I was Magnetic Poetry.

Don't feel bad about not being as available to the blog world as usual. You got more important things going on, lady!

Turning a place into a home just happens naturally - and gradually.
You'll get there!

Good luck finishing the move, and take a few deep breaths (outside, preferably.)

No need to feel the pressure of virtual 'obligations.'

(Hi! I'm back!)

I remember this bit - I ended up spending two weeks using a sleeping bag on a mattress not dissimilar to Renton out of Trainspotting. Bizarrely in the middle of it all I had a swanky business trip to Japan to make. Once it had all subsided I finally bought a bed and could sleep normally again.

But I wonder, is there something to be enjoyed about this part? Like the potential of moulding the place into what you want - that's quite exciting no?

The other day I cleaned off my fridge of everything except photos of my nieces and nephews. I noticed that I had one poem on there from the day I moved in 3 years ago. I haven't touched the poetry since...

I'm with Deutlich- don't worry about blogging, get settled in, work out some poems to rival Emily Dickenson and know that we will all be here when you get back.
