The stifling effects of contentment

I am beginning to see some truth to the adage that distress, to some extent, is at the heart of creativity.

Because I am just plain content.
And I feels like this leaves me with little to say.

Sure, things aren't perfect. There's always more work, and more work after that. Similarly, there is always a full collection of ludicrous anecdotes at my expense sitting in my back pocket.
Such as? Well, today, as I was attempting to walk home with arms full of cleaning surprise and a mop in hand (yes, awkward enough as is, especially for a member of the uncoordinated such as myself), the back of my well-loved shoes decided to burst along the seam. This means I was not only on the side of a busy road weighed down by loads of Lysol and a mop, but that I had to motor around by hopping on one foot while precariously pointing my other toe upwards.

However, other than such ridiculum, life just feels, well, nice. I'm enjoying this whole domestic thing. I like waking up to him.
And it feels like to say anything more than that would border on excessive.

Now that's just slapstick comedy! Did it make a comedy "rrrrrip" noise as it happened?

Contentment is indeed the enemy of blogging - I've always maintained that this is true. So hurry up and get miserable again...

Hadn't really thought about it, but yes, you have an astute there. Feeling "just right" can leave the canals of creativity to run dry. But I'd swap being miserable for contentment anyday, bloging fodder or not.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with plain content. My fiance and I have had moments where we think we should be doing more or more should be going on in our lives. But, then we take a look at what we have, and realize we have it pretty darn good. Recognizing how great life is and not complaining about the little, unimportant things is what counts. Seems like you're in a great place!

Oh good. I was just saying to my husband, 'you know what? I'm happy." And that's such a great feeling :) Even if it is mundane.

I hope that doesn't come off as sketch.

I envy your domestic contentment...

Though if I could just teach my cat to do the dishes, I could be right there with you. Life? She is pretty good these days...

i agree so much with this post. while contentment is great and all, it can be kind of boring to write about it.

Pass some of that contentment onto me this weekend, eh? TWO DAYS!

I'm shocked, you still mop? Have Swiffers not yet made it north of the US Border? I hope NAFTA isn't behind this! That would be cruel and unusual punishment!
I seriously wonder if I ever really cleaned before I owned Swiffer products!

The domestic thing is lovely. I don't think I will ever tire of it. I'm glad you get to enjoy it.

I may be wrong, but I think you're in love.

Positive vibes like this are getting so rare--I'm glad to drink them up when and where I can.

I'll get back on the ball soon. Hockey playoffs have me mesmerized. Did you see that whoopin Detroit put on Colorado? Awesome! I'm glad to see that the Dominator and his notorious "bad groin" have been sidelined. He needs to retire. And look at Chelios! If he can score a goal, he'll be the oldest person in playoff history to do so besides the ridiculouisly long-lived Gordie Howe.

I'm sure the Canucks will be there next year. They can become competive again if they can get their hands on a time machine and bring Bure, Mogilny, Bertuzi and Naslund all together in their prime. It can happen! Anything is possible if you really know your quantum physics, which I pretend to do.

I hope your week is going good.

Miss you and all the rest.

Take it easy and enjoy those mornings, you know.

I envy you. It's quite nice to wake up beside someone you love, isnt it? Very nice, no? But no worries, you'll be ok, you'll find ur creativity soon. Just enjoy the happy contentment.

You're content and I'm given up. I've decided I'm not gonna smash my head through the wall, so there's no point in beating my forehead bloody against it - and whatever's meant to happen is gonna happen anyway.

This is the new me. Laid back... how you like it? :)

(and this time, it's gonna last!)

it's fantastic, isn't it, when domestic can be paired with such bliss?

21 year old me would have never believed it.

you could write about how neither of us have become bridezillas yet in light of our pending nuptuals. or would that only be interesting to you and me?

it's odd how domestication sounds more and more appealing the longer we have it.

I think there's definitely something to be said for that. The Duke seems to be posting less than usual. I suspect he is rather content also

being content is pretty much perfect. unless you become content with being miserable then that is just stupid : )

Contentment, enjoyment, life being "nice" - things sound wonderful.
And don't worry about the creativity taking a momentary dip - it will always be there.
