Mouse in the house!

A mouse has been spotted in our kitchen.

There is nothing okay about this.

I never realized I had a problem with rodents until I heard I may be sharing residence with one. Now, I can't stop panicking about accidentally stepping on a poor furry critter in the middle of the night.

My usually barefooted self has taken to wearing my infamous cat slippers at all times, and stomping very loudly each time I'm within proximity of the kitchen, shouting "No mouses allowed!" I'm a little hopeful that the kittens on my feet may be mistaken as real felines by his little mouse eyes. As such, I have taken to random meowing or purring to help seal this image.

My boyfriend may or may not think I am crazy.

The acting out of scenes with my feet probably doesn't help.

(EDIT: Exterminator is coming in soon, don't worry, we haven't merely accepted Mr. Mouse as a houseguest! This just seems to be a side effect of old buildings...)

LOL, why don't you just get a trap? Come on, mice are icky and carry disease... being humane isn't worth it if one of those icky things are taking up residence in your kitchen (of all places!) Imagine how contaminated your food might get if that thing's allowed to run rampant!

Haha, don't worry, we are not merely letting him run rampant!
The building manager has an exterminator coming in on Tuesday, and Mr. Mouse seems to prefer our downstairs neighbour's place to ours (no droppings or anything in our kitchen). I just didn't think the practicalities were quite as fun to write about!

hahaha, ok. Just making sure.

I did enjoy the slipper-show though.

Ugh, this reminds me so much of living in NYC. Good luck!!

Sounds like you are handling it at least moderately well. ;) I wouldn't be able to sleep at night in absolute terror that it would sneak into my bedroom.

Ewwww!

We've had ants around our house. But mice are worse!

ooh we had mice in my house growing up once. they are quick little suckers. it's best to give them warning like you said. good luck! glad they didn't come out while i was there.

Couple of points. First, if you've got a mouse it means you can't have rats. Apparently they don't live together. And I know which one I'd rather see when turning on the kitchen light. Second, I've tried to stomp on our mouse with the lights off almost every night for the last 6 weeks and never got anywhere near to the little beggar. Chances are, cat slippers won't make much difference.

am I the only one wishing you wouldn't kill it? ;)

You are just far too funny,

I've missed reading your words...

You need a sitcom, ;)

Hahaha. I can just picture you stomping around.
That is so totally what I would do if I had a mouse in the house. And if I had cat slippers (which I unfortunately do not...)

We have rats in the garden(they love the bird table) i think its great but Caz has other ideas, the neighbors are on one side setting traps and poison and on the other side shooting on sight, me i keep feeding them!

The first time I met a mouse in one of my previous residences, I amazed by the urge that I felt to jump on a table or chair (though I resisted) - it was purely instinctive that I didn't want to be on the same level as the furry rodent.

Suddenly all those Tom and Jerry cartoons made sense.

Another thing though - people often refer to "The Mouse" as if there's only one, when in fact there probably a small army of them. I'm sure Mr Exterminator has got it in hand though! :-)

Rodents, sheesh. They are so annoying but at the same time quite cute...yes I realize they're disease ridden but still...

I may or may not have watched Alvin and the Chipmunks this past weekend which could account for my strange love for vermin.

I've not seen a mouse in years.

I think mice are pretty much blind, however and operate mainly by sense of smell.
This would mean the mouse may not be fooled by your slippers.

haha, love the slippers-acting! ;)

But, yeah, mice in the kitchen is not cool. Not at all...

Old house slippers are the best EVAR.

Isn't it amazing what we'll do to make ourselves feel better in the face of little rodent-like creatures? I have a visual that won't quit..lol...

Gah, mice talk makes me feel all icky and make me think that maybe some are hiding in my house somewhere!

Good thing you've already called an exterminator -- the longer you let them run free with you, the more there will be...and the more poop you'll find.

Yuck.

Cats on my feet or not, I would totally be checking into a hotel right now.

You are VEDDY brave. That mouse could very well crawl down your throat and suffocate you while you sleep, you know.

OMG. You can't even begin to imagine what would happen if you were J and J were you. My head would've fallen off on the account of shreiking!! ;-)

Good luck finding the little fellow.

Ugh...rodents! My skin just crawled. This is the reason I have a cat, ok just one of the reasons.

ha. i feel your pain. i was living in fear of the biggest bug i have ever seen. a mouse would have been ten times worse. i can imagine myself doing the exact same thing you're doing. i hope you take care of the problem soon.

The only mice I get are the ones that the cats bring in!

They keep them in the bathtub, where escape is impossible, so they can torture them at will.

When they tire of this game, they kill them and leave the little corpses and blood trails as rewards for their staff. That would be WH and me.

omg this reminds me (don't ask how) of the fact that yesterday i totally touched a CENTIPEDE...that was lurking in my washing machine!!! i was like, hmm, what's that in the water and i screamed like a ninny and threw it back in. the detergent killed it. but i was so creeped out! my mom said my scream made her think there was a mouse

Must be mouse season. i had to confiscate the 'real' mouse my cat discovered in my living room the other night. :( hes been on 'mouse hunt' ever since... randomly staring into corners kinda crazily...

We had a mouse in our house the other day... I put my cat in the general vicinity of where the mouse was hanging out and I think it fled. I haven't heard or seen it since.

Ugh, mice. They're awful. When we moved when I was a kid into an old old house that had just been gut rehabbed, we had a huge mouse problem. Ick ick ick.

Ugh-mouse. They're cute, but critters all in one. Good luck with the exterminator!

you should get a real cat. apparently just the smell of them scares the mice away. (more so than the site of cat slippers.) the downside is that the cats will sometimes, if they are outdoor cats, bring the mice in - usually quite dead at that point, which I always find sad. last week our cat spent a whole night rustling around in the closet and we couldn't figure out what he was doing. till we found the mouse there in the morning.

I found a spider in my bathtub this morning. It drowned before I realized there was a spider in my bathtub. Whoops.

I can relate? :)

OMG a mouse? I would run and hide because I'm a sissy. My stepmom will hide upstairs too until the mouse is gone
