I wish...

... that, on a day where the US struck a tremendous blow against racial discrimination, they didn't also strike a tremendous blow for homophobia. I am in awe that people believe they have that any right over the personal lives of others to be able to ban two people in love from getting married. It is not as though voting against Proposition 8 would have forced gay marriage upon anyone. Even worse, however, is the fact that in Arkansas, people have voted against gay and lesbians being able to be adoptive or foster parents. Are we really still at that point where we believe these people are inherently flawed by virtue of their sexuality?

... that virtually every apartment in my city wasn't no pets allowed.

... that part of being a woman wasn't being caught up in an insane swirl of panic every time your period is a day late. I don't need to be re-evaluating my life as it currently stands on a monthly basis, thank you very much.

... that blogging didn't feel like a chore sometimes. Although I'm sure Google Reader was a good idea in principle, it is really just a massive guilt trip. I don't want to read your words because I have to. I want to read them because I want to-- which is what it felt like more when I was just typing the url in because I was thinking of you.

... that candy corn and Reese's Pieces fulfilled my daily recommended intake of anything remotely healthy (Vitamin K represent!).

... that, after nearly two years of blogging, my feelings wouldn't be that little bit hurt that people read but don't comment on a post I worked hard on.

... that buying organic bread didn't mean it would go moldy in three days. I can see the appeal of preservatives!

... that there was more than an hour between when I get home from seeing my last client tonight, and the time at which I need to crawl into bed in order to get a good night's sleep.

... that my world wouldn't collapse if I wasn't relatively organized.

... that I still remembered how to walk in heels.

... that my friend would stop messing around with the douchebag with a girlfriend.

... that there was a better chance a plane will be able to land in HomeTown over the holidays, as I don't ever want to take the damn Greyhound again.

... that I would stop stabbing myself with my umbrella. The rain isn't that depressing!

... that my shoulders had less than 17 knots in each one of them.

... that my professional career wouldn't suffer by virtue of me dying my hair fire engine red.

Ah the things we wish for. Someday some will come true.

Sorry I didn't comment on your post! I have only been posting and reading here and there these days in effort to get myself together.

AS for the womanly issue...I find an implant called Implanon works wonders :)

awww... I don't always comment but I do always read. : ) I'll try harder.

Someday! Someday!
I love this post.

I can't imagine being married to someone I love to have that marriage legally taken away. Not to mention being told I can't marry another mature consenting adult of my choice.

Can landlords legally refuse pets? I think it's considered discrimination here.

Maybe a professional massage is in order.

I'll drop out of lurkdom to say hi.

I am no help on the womanly issue, but I can say from experience that grad school in and of itself often leads to the wish "that my world wouldn't collapse if I wasn't relatively organized"

I agree with you on prop 8. I find it odd that I get more comments on some things than others too, but I just get excited about getting them at all, I always read but I dont always comment myself.

I'm with you on so many of these.
Especially the first and last...

Dye your hair! So what if you get lots of looks in prison. You're getting them any way!

I'm nervous that this means anyone who got married is no longer legally married. Stupid California.

Also. If your landlord doesn't hang out in your apartment, I see no reason why you guys can't get a kitty. Just hide it in the bathtub if you need something fixed - or bury it under clothes and tell it to "SHH! Sit still!"

i agree with many of these! the first, the bit about pets cos i want a dog again so bad :(
and funny about the red hair...my hair is naturally kind of red and i dye it to make it go away!
anyway i really like your blog, and appreciate the time u put in to make your posts. if i havent commented before it would only be by accident!
ps. i dont have that google reader thing, i just get my blogs of my page. i dont know how to get it. maybe its for the best?

I have the shoulder knots too, partially from political/Prop 8 related stress, partially from other things on your list.

Physician heal thyself!

Most of these are solved by outlook modification which - despite lazy people quoting "old dogs, new tricks, blah blah" - is a completely achievable thing. So stop whinging and get on with it...

Word verification: "lympunge". (Is it just me or have these been getting better recently?)

Oh, I totally hear you...so many "I wishes" on my own list.

I really liked this post :)

I can't believe that others still think they have the right to decide who a person should love and how they celebrate that love for each other. It's actually so depressing.

But I also think that change can only happen a little bit at a time. So many thought they would never see a black president in their lifetime and it happened. Hopefully this will be the next thing to change.

I DO try and comment on most posts I read but my connection is so damn slow sometimes that I end up waiting for the comment page to appear for about ten minutes and then have to give up. :(

I hope you're not going to tell me that your friend and his girlfriend are doing something kinky with a douchebag! :) "messing around with the douchebag with a girlfriend."

I identified with many of your wishes (even the douchebag part, heehee)

I wish that Prop 8 had passed too.

And I'm sorry for not always commenting, I find myself skimming a lot of blogs these days.. and yours in particular doesn't come through in my reader in full.. and apparently I'm a big lazy jackass that can't handle clicking on the link to read the full post because I need it all in my reader.

I'm lame.

And i'm sorry.

Tough day or week? You know, I was surprised about the gay marriage ban too. I really was given how well Obama won, but what can I say.

By the way, never feel like reading my blog is a chore. It's not something people should feel like they need to do especially of the stress of missing period is affecting them more. I hope things look up soon.

Change a few words here and there, but otherwise I could've written this post. Especially #1. It's been a love-hate week for me in terms of politics - like you, I just don't understand people infringing on other people's rights when it really won't affect them personally!

I agree with you on the race/homophobia one. I was incredibly disappointed.I can't believe my native state would do such thing.

A lot of Californians are already attempting to repeal or revote the Prop 8 passing. I wish I could say the same for other states that passed similar measures (ie, Arkansas, Florida, etc.). It seems to take U.S. citizens quite some time to warm up to things like OPENING OUR MINDS. Another blogger wrote it, but I'm going to use the line here because it's rather fitting...One step forward, one step back, right?

And p.s. I'm pretty sure this is the only blog post I will comment on today. I haven't been compelled to comment at all lately. So don't take my absence personally! ;)

I haven't done one of these in awhile...I may have to borrow your idea.

Avoid the Greyhound!!! Those are the places of scary movies and creepy people.

Yay! Candy Corn!!

I know what you mean about Google Reader. I finally got mine back down to daily-reading (i.e., not attempting to catch up on the 2 months I was gone... most of while I'll admit I skimmed, you people write a lot!). It's a lot more enjoyable to read blogs when the number at the top of the screen isn't in the triple digits :)

Girl, tell me about that period being late! I hear you sister!

I think you and I are the last two people in North America who still eat candy corn.

I love it though.

Oh do I ever hear you about Google Reader and blogging!!! Great idea in principle, but didn't anyone ever think of the consequences?? I'm also finding that I'm commenting less often on the blogs that I like the most... :(

I hate it when I don't get the comments I was expecting. I'm sorry if I didn't comment on the one you're referring to!

I wish that my car still had a running engine.

It's sad that you can't have a pet. It's sadder that you can't dye your hair fire engine red. ;-)

I was surprised by that Proposition 8...

It is a funny thing about posts. the ones we like best ourselves are rarely the ones the readers like.

I just cleared 100 posts out of reader unread. Serves me right for going away.

Die yiur hair red. Just go with it.
Livec a little :)

I know, its a sad thing that California voted that way. Arkansas? I totally expected them to be the jerks they were. After all, they had Huckabee as a Governer. What can you expect from a state that elects someone like that?

That said, I think Gay rights are chugging merrily on forward. Fuck the laws, I see more people in every-day life coming across gay people. Over time, it will ease societies' fears that by allowing Gay marriage, they are not legalizing sucking cock at every corner! We should remind ourselves, that its been only ONE generation since the movement's been so alive (since 60's).

Amen to all of it!

(And my commenting? Has been truly sucky lately, for everything. Sorry...)

Oh my gosh, the re-evaluating your life every time your period is late. THAT is torture, my friend. When it finally comes, it is bittersweet.
