Miss M

Where was I this Thursday night??

Perhaps the picture below may provide a clue...

In case you can't ready the reverse writing, my enormous lollipop says "Madonna: Candy Shop". Fitting considering it was part of the free swag I got as part of my Madonna VIP passes!

(eeekkk!)

In general, truthfully, I am not a huge pop music fan-- but growing up in the 80s, I have to make an exception for Madonna. I lipsynced to "True Blue" in on my bed, secretly watched "Truth or Dare" with my girlfriends,  and danced to "Ray of Light" in living rooms at parties. I remember being forbidden from going to see "A League of Their Own" for a friend's birthday party simply because Madonna acted it in, and parents were therefore convinced it had to be salacious. As such, when I heard she was making her first appearance ever in my city of residence, I decided I was going to be one of those people, waiting in line the day tickets went on sale and spending atrocious amounts of money.

My friend ended up picking up a number of VIP packages, and thus I ended up spending more money than I am comfortable admitting for 12th row tickets.

But you better believe it was worth it.

There was a banquet beforehand, with a ridiculous spread... oysters, roasts, wine, cheesecake. Then, instead of waiting in line outside in the rain, we danced to a DJ with middle aged women in bustiers and an array of gay men.

The show itself was a spectacle and a half, especially considering I usually just go to smaller venue shows. The stage was bedecked by two huge looming Swarovski encrusted M's. She came out on a throne, made six costumes changes, was swarmed by countless talented dancers, drove a rolls royce around the stage, along with the moving boxing ring and stripper pole. And that body? Holy Christ. The woman is cut, and has endurance of an entire high school basketball team. I was sweating and exhausted just from dancing and singing along, and she was still going without skipping a beat. She played for two hours, and touched upon most of her career stages-- I went nuts when she played Like a Prayer.

Sure, she may be oversexualized and overplayed, but dammit, Madonna had me starstruck.

Hahaha, I just kinda wish she would age gracefully though! But I should admire her for her refusal to age.

Madonna holds a special place in my heart for her forbidden work, which all seemed to happen during my years of "awakening".

A little older maybe, but well, I guess recently single again now too...

and like a sucker i thought that was just your halloween score. i'm saying 'and like a sucker' a lot lately, for some reason. like a sucker i've never been to a show quite like that. biggest name i've ever seen live is maybe bob dylan and, uh, he didn't come out on a throne or satin bed or anything, he barely looked at the audience actually. this sounds fun. if beck ever hits my smallish city i'll stand in line. oh, like a prayer was always my favourite too.

My friends told me she's built like a truck. She had arm veins and everything.

I must admit that these days I think Madonna looks like a steroid-ravaged female wrestler of dubious genetic gender...

But I will still scream and start jumping around whenever I hear "Like A Prayer." Which almost makes up for the horrid fake British accent.

Glad you had fun!! :)

Wow! Definitely a good way to spend an evening! I'm thinking I need more VIP packages in my life.

Hmm. That line sounded dirty.

Sounds like you had an awesome time.
I also was a fan of Madonna in the 80's and a bit of the 90's. I dont enjoy her as much now - but i can imagine that she must really rock on stage.

It sounds like a fabulous concert! I saw Madonna on her Blonde Ambition tour. It was amazing then so I can only imagine what it's like today!

Wasn't the show AMAZING? Oh man, we were in the nose bleed seats and still had a kick-ass time. I can only imagine what it was like 12 rows back!

I'm not a big fan of Madonna these days but to see her live would be amazing - especially if she was playing stuff that spanned her whole career. I love her old stuff.
