Guest Posts R Us and a Sprinkle of Babbling

I've officially stuck my toe into the guest blogging pool! I'm writing today over at Good Things Come to Those Who Whine for the fabulous Arielle, who is gallivanting in Israel, while my biggest drama of the day is whether I feel like making burritos or not.

(Who am I kidding-- the answer is always yes when it comes to burritos.)

So hop on over and say hi!

However, if you all know we well enough, I am hardly one for brevity. As such, I decided to use this opportunity to touch on a smattering of things that you may or may not care about.
(Trust me, the guest post is better. Update posts still feel dirty to me.)
  • I'm still a bad blogger. Despite my best efforts, I seem unable to keep my reader below the 200 mark. Just to reiterate... this is not due to lack of bloggie love, but rather lack of bloggie time.
  • Following on the bad Blogger theme (note the capitalization)-- I have been unable to update my blogroll for over a month because the scroll bar has gone AWOL in Blogger's edit layout page. I will show some love to my new favourites soon, I promise!
  • I just found out yesterday that my presentation was accepted for a conference in Chicago at the end of June-- so I'm going to be stalking several of you in the Windy City!
  • Since I have a low stalking tolerance, and need a more immediate payoff, I was thrilled that it appears as though the lovely Distracted Spunk and I will be taking Seattle by storm in May!
  • To top it off, the fabulous Surfergrrl is coming my way in August, and there are also rumours of a certain member of the breakfast food family.
  • Due to more regular assessments at the prison, I now have both an inmate and a correctional officer with crushes on me. I don't know what is creepier-- the fact that the inmate pretended to be someone else to get in a room with me (remind me to tell this story in a future post) or the fact that I busted the correctional officer reading my change of address paper stuck to the back of my driver's license (why do you need to know where I live?).
  • TG and C have now moved in together after a whopping 3 months of dating.
  • What on earth possesses landlords to think that people who can afford $1500 a month in rent would rather have a flowered couch than their own furniture? Furnished apartments are some weird plot to charge the tenant more for the landlord to have extra storage.
  • Dexter is the greatest show in the universe. For serious.
Mmmm... burritos. Methinks it's time for dinner.

Edit- Harumph. Sour cream went bad 10 days early and now my burritos are merely sub par.

Hmm, bad sour cream? oxymoron? That's sad, nothing really does a burrito well without sour cream!

Congrats on being invited to present at the conference in
Chicago. I don't think you ever answered my question about my niece and whether or not you know her. Nicki-child psych-graduated from U of Seattle.

Gotta go check out your guest post...

Seattle! Us! NOT SOON ENOUGH! (Also, I am amused your word verification is texas. Everything is bigger in Texas. I wonder if my boobs would be bigger too.)

Fun out there on the west coast.

Sorry to hear about the sour cream, but it sounds like you are feeling a lot better today. So glad of that, you know.

You and DS in the same city? Can there be any greater deffinition of the term 'good times'?

Toaster should be touching down in Toronto in May, so I might very well be meeting the legend, as well. All we would need is you and the Duke, Benji and maybe a few more of the much-loved supporting cast to show up. Then we'd have all we need for a fully functional bloggie roof raiser fo reals.

See you at the guest post, my friend. Peace!

The member of the breastfast food family is getting feverishly excited about his trip!
And the guy checking your address might be about to involve you in some elaborate escape plan....or I might have been watching too much Prison Break.

Oh no finding out your Sour Cream is bad after you've gotten all excited for burritos is the worst!

Dexter IS awesome. hands down my favorite show. but please tell me you're not watching it on CBS or whatever cable network it's on. they have to sensor a lot of it - go buy the showtime DVDs!! totally worth it.

It is almost dinner time, and I have a sudden craving for a burrito. The greasy, delicious kind that the taco stand near my house sells.

Must...refrain...

I've never thought about it before, but that statement about the "furnished apartment" really makes total sense!

Boo to your sour cream. I don't get it, usually I can use mine LONG after the date, and yours is getting nasty BEFORE the date? In excess of a week? That is totally unacceptable.

Congratulations on the Chicago Conference!

I have to have sour cream on my burritos, I can't imagine eating them otherwise!

Oh, and I too had problems with the Blogger issue - I found help here: http://betabloggerfordummies.blogspot.com/2008/02/fix-page-elements-layout-editor-no.html

It takes forever for his page to load up, but at least now I have fixed the problem.

Your Dog Dies

it gets run over by a van.
you find it at the side of the road
and bury it.
you feel bad about it.
you feel bad personally,
but you feel bad for your daughter
because it was her pet,
and she loved it so.
she used to croon to it
and let it sleep in her bed.
you write a poem about it.
you call it a poem for your daughter,
about the dog getting run over by a van
and how you looked after it,
took it out into the woods
and buried it deep, deep,
and that poem turns out so good
you're almost glad the little dog
was run over, or else you'd never
have written that good poem.
then you sit down to write
a poem about writing a poem
about the death of that dog,
but while you're writing you
hear a woman scream
your name, your first name,
both syllables,
and your heart stops.

after a minute, you continue writing.
she screams again.

you wonder how long this can go on

Hey, Princess!

Just galavanting over the webs and I found one of the poems that I absolutely love and felt like sharing it.

Talk to you soon!

Peace!
